I am the museum educator at The Barnum Museum. We are just starting to host home school groups and have unique opportunities to develop and craft curriculum specifically for your group! Our collection does encompass the circus but also industrial Bridgeport, material culture, Victorian furniture, fine art and marble sculptures. We've begun working specifically on object-based learning and hands-on history lessons where students can come and touch history, not just see it! Specific programs for AP US History course work are available. Contact Melissa Houston at 203-331-1104 and visit our website www.barnum-museum.org for more information.

The Pequot Museum offers extensive, hands-on, immersive exhibits on the Native and natural history of southeastern Connecticut: starting 20,000 years ago at the last ice age, winding through a caribou hunt diorama from 11,000 years ago, continuing through a 16th-century life-size Pequot village, and life on and off the reservation in the 17-20th centuries. We offer guided tours daily. For groups of 10 or more, we offer enrichment programs and craft workshops. To discuss how we can help you reach your educational goals, please contact Director of Public Programs Kimberly Shockley, (860) 396-6862 or kshockley@pequotmuseum.org. Visit pequotmuseum.org for details about this unique museum.

The Newtown Historical Society is proud to announced the coming of our eighth annual History Camp. The event will be held the week of July 14-18 at the Matthew Curtiss house on Main Street in Newtown. The camp is for eight, nine and ten year olds and there will be separate sections, one in the afternoon and one in the morning. We welcome students from outside Newtown.
Children are guaranteed to enjoy themselves as they learn about our country's history in a variety of ways. On the opening day boys make their vests and get their colonial hats while the girls embroider and decorate their aprons and mob caps. Other activities are making and decorating marbles and playing marble games, making tin lanterns, baking pies in the colonial way, churning ice cream and playing colonial games. One day we have a super basket weaver help the children make baskets and on our ending day we fight a fire with real water and buckets in a bucket brigade.
If you have a child who might like to attend and would like more information or to enroll please call Gordon Williams as 203-405-6392 or email him at gmwllw@charter.net.
